Teterboro Airport is designed as a "reliever" airport that serves vital interests and general aviation requirements of the Northern New Jersey and the New York Metropolitan Area. Located in the Bergen County boroughs of Teterboro, Moonachie and Hasbrouck Heights, it is the oldest operating airport in the New York/New Jersey Metropolitan Area, and has been owned and operated by The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey since 1949. The property was acquired in 1917 by Walter C. Teter, and the first flight was made in 1919. For more history, click here.

Lakefront Airport

The Lakefront Airport was built in the 1930's. At the time of it's grand opening it was considered an architectual masterpiece. Built by the same architect that designed the Louisiana state capital building, it was the first major airport in the region, and served proudly as a general aviation airport to this day. Inside the terminal building, travellers would find an Art Deco wonderland, featuring murals by artist Xavier Gonzalez, friezes by Enrique R. Alferez and an array of stone wall and floor treatments

Busiest International Airport

London Heathrow handles the most international passengers (as opposedto passengers on domestic flights, which make up the majority of trafficat US airports). On an overall scale, Heathrow ranks third behind Atlantaand Chicago.

The Busiest Airport in the World

This depends on whether you monitor aircraft movements (the numbers oftake-offs and landings), or passenger numbers. An airport such as WashingtonNational may have relatively high aircraft movements, but as the largestaircraft it handles is a Boeing 757, it handles relatively fewer annualpassengers than other airports with similar movements.

The Biggest Airport in the World

Taken literally as the airport which takes up the most land mass, thisis the King Fahd International Airport in Damman, Saudi Arabia. It takesup some 780 square kilometres - an area larger than many cities.
By comparison, London Heathrow takes up around 3,000 acres, or just 4.7 square miles.

Beijing Olympics airport

The world's biggest airport is now finished and ready for the 2008 Beijing Olympics. The $3.5 billion gigantic dragon terminal, which is the centerpiece of the 501-square-mile complex capable of allowing 50 million passengers per year, looks even more impressive in the amazing, almost unreal photos. (see movies)

Airports are essentially machines for processing people, airplanes, automobiles, cargo, and luggage—all of which move in different ways, and which need to be connected at certain points and separated by rigid security at others. Just getting all the parts to work together seems overwhelming—indeed, it did overwhelm British Airways last month at Heathrow, outside London, when Terminal 5, an eight-billion-dollar structure that was supposed to transform Heathrow from a congested tangle into a place that would thrill passengers with the joy of air travel, all but shut down on its opening day, when a computerized baggage system malfunctioned.
